Therapeutic properties of CBD oils

Therapeutic properties of CBD oils

Knowledge of the effects of hemp-derived preparations is still extremely superficial. The mere mention of hemp oil arouses distance or even fear. This is why knowledge about CBD oils needs to be spread and everyone made aware that this natural chemical is safe, not addictive and does not (unlike THC, a cannabis product) exhibit even the slightest psychotropic symptoms. For this has an immensely positive effect on the human body. It has a prophylactic effect, supports the treatment of many diseases and alleviates many pathological symptoms and disorders.

And this is no longer just idle writing, but the effects of CBD oils are confirmed by an increasing amount of scientific evidence, a whole host of studies are still ongoing and new possibilities of these natural chemical substances are still being discovered. A very important voice confirming its properties is that of the patients themselves, who have used and are using cannabidiol and the doctors under whose care the patients are.

How CBD oil works

In Poland, CBD oil is available as a dietary supplement, not a medicine. It is a source of exogenous cannabinoids, which have a positive effect on the endocannabinoid system found in the human body. Endocannabinoids are distributed throughout the human body and are essential for its proper functioning. It is a key component of both signalling and regulatory processes in human organs. Consumption of CBD oil supports all processes that lead to the body achieving homeostasis, i.e. a balance of vital functions.

When the human body produces too few endocannabinoids, or worse still, no endocannabinoids at all, then the body's processes begin to fail. Diseases that are already present worsen or new health problems start to occur. This is where CBD oil should step in. By supplying the body with cannabidiol, we are supplementing chemical compounds that are lacking in our the endocannabinoid system

It is important to be aware that, although further properties of CBD oils are still being discovered, it is not a panacea for everything. And what is the reason for this versatility of cannabidiol? Well, CB1 and CB2 receptors are scattered throughout the body, produced by the body and essential for its proper functioning. If they are not present in adequate amounts for some reason, as research has shown, they can be supplemented with cannabinoids from hemp seed, or CBD. And these go to the places where they are deficient, namely the brain, all organs, the skin or even immune cells. Hence the versatility of the positive effects of cannabidiol (CBD).

Preventive use of CBD oils

I think everyone knows that in order to stay healthy for as long as possible, it is important to eat sensibly, play sport and generally lead a healthy lifestyle. Healthy, unprocessed food, eating plenty of fruit and vegetables provides the body with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to ensure that our body maintains optimal levels of function.

Let us focus on antioxidants (antioxidants), which are a group of chemical compounds that have the power to delay or halt the oxidation process of a substance. They are mainly natural plant substances that, when taken, support the natural defence mechanisms of human cells. They are found in food products, but also in dietary supplements and are widely regarded as a preventive measure in the prevention of various diseases such as cancer, ischaemic heart disease and altitude sickness.

And it is the antioxidants, among others, that are found in the composition of CBD oils, and they are far more potent than those found in the Ci E vitamins found in foods.

Leading CBD researchers, but also medical doctors, believe that cannabidiol has a major impact on brain-body communication. One of the world's leading cannabinoid researchers, Dr Bradley E. Alger - an experimental psychologist from Harvard University stated in his publications: "...,that the chemical 'matrix' formed between the brain and the body aids in therapeutic cannabinoid treatment." He also added that CBD most likely involves a chemical mechanism that establishes a link between brain activity and body homeostasis: "... endocannabinoids are literally the bridge between the body and the mind. By understanding [their function], we begin to see a mechanism that can link brain activity to physical health conditions and disease."

So much for CBD as an antioxidant. But that is, after all, not the only property of cannabidiol. It has also been known for years that CBD oil has strong anti-inflammatory effects. This may reduce the risk of metabolic disorders, degradation of many cell types, including nerve cells. This is a hope for many patients struggling with non-regenerative diseases that appear with age. These include dementia, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease.

And there is another property of cannabidiol that is extremely important in the prevention of disease. Namely CBD has the ability to block a specific class of enzymes, which hinder the production of marrow by tissues. As a result, it can prevent bone disease. Therefore, older people in particular should use CBD oils prophylactically to prevent osteoporosis and arthritis and osteoarthritis.

These are, of course, not all the possible effects of CBD oil on the human body. However, we should be aware that taking CBD oil does not mean that we will never fall ill. Nature has not yet invented such a substance that would protect us from all diseases. However, CBD and other cannabinoids in hemp oils are more similar in composition, structure and effect to endocannabinoids found in the human body than any synthetic drugs or preparations.

CBD properties confirmed by studies

Research into the properties of cannabinoids on the body is still ongoing, but a lot is already known about them. Below, we will present only a selection of those we consider to be the most relevant and best documented for human health. Once again, it is worth emphasising that although the use of CBD oils has many beneficial effects, it is not a cure-all or panacea.

CBD oil - anti-inflammatory properties

The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD oils are perhaps the best researched. And these studies have shown that cannabidiol both inhibits the inflammatory process and fights inflammation that already exists. It also has the ability to prevent inflammation from occurring. This applies to all those sites in the body where the endocannabinoid receptors CB1 and CB2 are located. It can therefore be seen that the therapeutic properties of CBD oils are extremely broad in this respect and apply to any disease accompanied by inflammation.

CBD oil - analgesic properties

The analgesic properties of cannabinoids have been known around the world for centuries. Therefore, the scientific confirmation of such effects was only a matter of time. However, the use of CBD oils for pain is now quite common, as it is not only effective, but also natural and without significant side effects. They can also be combined with opiate therapy and, importantly, the introduction of CBD oils is often followed by a reduction in opiates themselves.

They have an analgesic effect because, as is already known, they have a great influence on the endocannabinoid system, which in turn is responsible for, among other things, the transmission of pain signals. However, in order to CBD oils were effective, it is important to dose them appropriately for pain relief. In pain management, it is good to use full spectrum CBD oils, which in addition to CBD also contain a full spectrum of cannabinoids such as CBDA, CBDV, CBN, THC, THCA, CBC, CBG, CBGA, as well as terpenes and flavonoids, which are also attributed with analgesic properties.

CBD oil - anti-cancer properties

In terms of anticancer properties, studies have been conducted on mice and rats. They showed that cannabinoids can inhibit tumour growth by causing the death of tumour cells, blocking their division and also inhibiting the development of blood vessels, which are necessary for the tumour to grow. Both laboratory and animal studies have shown that cannabinoids have the ability to destroy tumour cells while protecting healthy cells.

A study in mice also showed that cannabinoids can protect against colitis, having the effect of lowering the risk of colorectal cancer, but also being useful in its treatment.

Laboratory studies on CBD in the context of glioma treatment have shown that this cannabidiol, when used in conjunction with chemotherapy, can increase its effectiveness by helping to destroy cancer cells without damaging healthy cells.

Another laboratory study looked at the effects of cannabidiol on breast cancer. These showed that CBD induced the death of cancer cells while having little effect on healthy cells. In contrast, studies on metastatic breast cancer in mice proved that cannabinoids have the power to reduce tumour growth, number and spread.

CBD oil - anti-diabetic properties

Thanks to the fact that cannabidiol lowers and regulates blood sugar levels, protects Beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin and, in addition, is one of the cannabinoids that increases carbohydrate metabolism, CBD can be considered to have anti-diabetic properties. But that is not all. Israeli-American human studies have shown that people who use CBD oils in their diet have found that taking them promotes weight loss. They work by converting white fat into brown fat, while maintaining normal insulin production and sugar metabolism.

CBD oil - neuroprotective properties

All cannabinoids, but CBD in particular among them, have an impact on the proper functioning of the brain. These processes are extremely complex, but cannabidiol, among others, removes dead cells, improves the supply of energy to the cells or reduces the toxicity of excess glutamate.

A 2008 study showed that providing the body with cannabinoids (including CBD and THC) promotes the formation of new nerve cells in animal models. This also applies to ageing organisms. It is therefore worth using CBD oils to protect the brain from neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia, neuropathy, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

CBD oil - antidepressant, anti-anxiety and anti-stress properties

And in this case, the effect of CBD oil on the body resulting in help with depression and anxiety is quite complicated. But in the simplest terms, it can be said that the more CBD in the body, the more serotonin (the happiness hormone) in synapses. This works in that CBD binds to serotonin receptors, but also indirectly increases the production of serotonin itself.

Research by German scientists has shown that CBD oil can regulate serotonin levels and keep them high enough, and can therefore be helpful in treating depression and anxiety.

Research also shows that cannabidiol can work together to induce neurogenesis. This is a condition known as 'neuronal birth', through which the body is able to alleviate anxiety and depression.

One of the properties of cannabidiol is its ability to stimulate the endocannabinoid system into action. Thus, it becomes an effective strategy for alleviating the physical and behavioural consequences of stress.

CBD oil - properties to help you fall asleep and improve sleep quality

The improvement in the quality of sleep when taking CBD oils is due to several ways in which cannabidiol affects both the body itself and the ailments that are the cause of poor sleep quality.

CBD lowers the levels of the stress hormone (cortisol) in the body, and it is known - less stress, better sleep. The higher the level of cortisol in the body, the more often a person wakes up during the night, which doesn't allow for sleep and recovery.

CBD oil, as we have already mentioned reduces stress and anxiety, another cause of insomnia and sleep problems. It also has a soothing and relaxing effect.

Cannabidiol also copes well with the excessive daytime sleepiness that some people suffer from by acting as a stimulant.

CBD oil - bone regeneration properties

Cannabinoids also influence the metabolic processes of the skeletal system. This effect consists of blocking an enzyme that is responsible for the breakdown of compounds that are raw materials in bone reconstruction. This is important especially in older people who are at risk of bone diseases such as osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. CBD has the ability to stimulate the bone reconstruction process, which contributes to faster bone healing after fractures.

CBD oil - antioxidant properties

Research has emerged which shows that cannabinoids are a very rich (if not the richest) source of antioxidants. This is because the structure of CBD contains a free oxygen atom that is transferred to free radicals, neutralising them. And it is this atom that gives CBD its antioxidant properties.

These properties can also be exploited by using CBD oil or other products containing this cannabidiol directly on the skin. The skin's regeneration process is then triggered, which is particularly effective after damage caused by free radicals or UV radiation. CBD is also effective in supporting the skin, alleviating the symptoms of acne or psoriasis.
