Which CBD oil for your dog?

which cbd oil for your dog

Is CBD oil can have as beneficial an effect on a dog as it has on a human being? Probably not everyone knows that dogs (and all other mammals) have, among other systems (respiratory, digestive, nervous, immune, circulatory), also an endocannabinoid system. This is why the positive effects of CBD will occur just as it does in humans.

Not surprisingly, CBD oils for animals are becoming more widely talked about. And they can now easily be purchased from any self-respecting manufacturer and retailer. After all, for many, the dog is a member of the family and is often cared for more than themselves. And what CBD oil for dogs is it suitable? How does it work and how to dose it?

What is CBD oil

Let's start with the basics. CBD is one of the cannabinoids produced from hemp seed, unlike THC (cannabis), which is extracted from the cannabis plant. It is a product that, unlike THC, has no psychoactive properties.

CBD oil is a combination of CBD extract and oil, often from hemp seed, but not necessarily. In the animal version, it is usually combined with salmon or cod oil.

How CBD oil works

The cannabidiol contained in the oils influences the action of the the endocannabinoid systemThe body's receptor system, discovered relatively recently in the 1990s, is involved in the regulation of almost all bodily processes. This system is involved in the regulation of almost all bodily processes, thanks to receptors distributed throughout the body, in this case the dog. Admittedly, CBD does not interact with them directly, but it stimulates the endocannabinoid system to produce endocannabinoids. In addition, by blocking the enzymes that break down the receptors, it significantly prolongs the life of the receptors and thus the positive effects. The proper functioning of the endocannabinoid system keeps the animal organism in a state of homeostasis, or balance.

Cannabidiol is known to affect opioid, serotonin and dopamine receptors, which would explain its analgesic and anti-anxiety properties. And it is because of these properties that it is starting to be increasingly used in veterinary medicine.

When to use CBD oil in a dog

As mentioned above, the most common application is CBD oils in dogswho struggle with anxiety or pain. But these are not the only ailments that cannabidiol deals with. Just as in humans, CBD oils should also be used in dogs prophylactically, but also when our pet has been diagnosed with various other diseases or ailments like:

  • epilepsy - the symptoms of epilepsy in many dogs have been alleviated;
  • alleviation of various types of phobias;
  • cancer - CBD has been found to prevent the movement of cancer cells and alleviate the symptoms of the disease;
  • immunodeficiency - Cannabidiol strengthens this system;
  • alleviation of skin inflammation.

But dogs also suffer from various behavioural ailments. Sometimes dogs are anxious or suffer from separation anxiety. In these cases, CBD is often used because of its natural origin, as an alternative to, for example, tranquillisers, which always put an additional strain on the dog's body.

And when are CBD oils most commonly administered to dogs? For example, in situations that are particularly stressful for the dog, such as New Year's Eve and the bang of fireworks, thunderstorms and changes in the environment that are stressful for the dog.

Dosage of CBD oil

It should be noted from the outset that there are simply no clear dosages for either humans or dogs. The dosages given by the manufacturer on the products sold are suggested dosages and are best followed. The rule of thumb is to start with lower concentrations and increase the dosage over time. One must, of course, observe the dog's behaviour and be aware that CBD oils cannot be fatally overdosed. The effect of CBD oils on the body varies from person to person. It is known that even body weight has an influence, but also the sex of the animal or age. Therefore, the dog must be observed and the dosage adjusted.

Does CBD oil cause side effects in dogs?

The most common information is that the use of CBD oils in dogs has no side effects and no adverse reactions. And this is basically true.

However, it is important to be aware that it is always an individual matter and there may be a dog that will not tolerate CBD oils. Even the purchase of a cannabidiol of questionable quality can harm your dog. It is therefore fundamental to purchase CBD oils from reliable manufacturers.

Research also tells us that although CBD oil alone is safe for health, when used in conjunction with medication it can cause the medication not to be absorbed in the correct time and proportions. Therefore, if your dog is taking any medications, including CBD oil with them should first be consulted with your vet.

Can CBD oil be given to dogs for humans

CBD oils for humans are usually produced on the basis of vegetable oils, primarily hemp oil, but also coconut oil or olive oil. These oils do not harm the dog, but for most they are probably unattractive in terms of smell and taste.

CBD oils for dogs, on the other hand, are usually produced on the basis of fish oils, such as salmon or cod. This is so much better for the pet that the smell alone makes the pet eager to take the CBD oil.

Hempmont oils for dogs are produced on the basis of hemp oil (made from hemp seed) combined with cod liver oil and further enriched with thistle oil. As a result, they not only contain the full spectrum of phytonutrients, terpenes, flavonoids and phenols, in a composition ideal for your pet, but also provide supplementation of omega-3 and omega-6 acids.

Thanks to this wealth, they not only support the dog's treatment, but also strengthen the immune system and have an excellent effect on the condition of the skin and coat of the pet.
