Use of CBD oils in Alzheimer's disease

Use of CBD oils in Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative, incurable disease, the effects of which cannot be stopped and which eventually leads to death. It was first described by Alois Alzheimer and hence its name. It usually affects people over 65 years of age, but this is not the rule and younger people can also be affected. It cannot be cured, but it can be controlled and its symptoms alleviated with appropriate medication, exercise or natural alternative preparations, such as the following CBD oils.

Causes and course of Alzheimer's disease

The disease generally takes a different course in each patient, but some of the symptoms are common to sufferers. However, there is often a problem in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease itself, with the first symptoms being attributed to age or a life of stress, and the later treatment is started, the more difficult it is to slow down the progress of the disease. The first symptoms are mainly problems recalling events that took place in the recent past. Over time, so-called splicing, aggression, irritability, language difficulties, mood swings and eventually long-term memory loss appear. The disease worsens, the patient loses more and more vital functions, resulting in death.

Despite many years of research, to this day Alzheimer's disease remains a great enigma. Both the causes and the progression of the disease are poorly understood. Research conducted indicates that the causes can be traced to plaques (amyloid plaques, senile plaques) and neurofibrillary tangles (neurofibrillary degeneration), which are found in the brain. Doctors cannot treat the disease itself; they can only administer symptomatic treatment. It relies primarily on mental and physical exercise and a balanced diet, which can delay problems with cognitive function. Pharmacological agents are also used, but supportive alternative treatments such as CBD oil.

However, the disease still remains incurable and its progression leads to cognitive decline. This necessitates constant care for the patient.

What is CBD oil

Common knowledge about cannabis is that there is only one type of cannabis, - the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa L. var. indica), to which they are hallucinogenic (they contain THC). It is also known to be used in the treatment of various diseases in the form of, for example, medical marijuana. But cannabis is not only marijuana, which is illegal in Poland (apart from medical marijuana). There is also another variety of hemp, hemp seed (Cannabis sativa L. var. sativa), otherwise known as fibre hemp. In Poland, they have been harvested for centuries for their fibres and seeds, from which very healthy oil is pressed.

However, oil can also be produced from the inflorescences of the hemp plant. Once the plants are ripe, they are harvested and processed, extracting terpenes and cannabinoids (CBD) from the flowers. These are compounds that have many therapeutic properties. Using a supercritical CO2 extraction method, CBD oil is producedwhich (unlike THC) has no psychoactive properties. It does contain traces of THC, but this amount only enhances its beneficial effects. In Poland, CBD oils are legal and widely available.

CBD oil, once it enters the body, begins to affect the human endocannabinoid system (ECS). This system is primarily made up of two receptors: CB1 and CB2, which have a strong influence on the regulation of the immune system, on appetite, metabolism, mood, memory or the human sensation of pain.

Properties of CBD oil

CBD oil (cannabidiol) represents a whole spectrum of positive effects on the human body. It is an all-natural and safe product, although it is clear that its use should always be consulted with a doctor, especially by those suffering from severe illnesses and taking multiple medications. However, studies show that taking CBD oils does not have many significant side effects. On the other hand, the positive effects are numerous. Enough to list:

  • complaints of pain - has a soothing effect, especially on headaches, joint, muscle and bone pain, as well as those of unknown etymology,
  • inflammations - has the power to combat inflammation and protect the body from new outbreaks,
  • rheumatic diseases - alleviates inflammation of the joints, supports patients suffering from rheumatism and arthritis,
  • immunological diseases - supports the treatment of allergies while building up the body's natural immunity,
  • illnesses of a mental and nervous nature - relieves hyperactivity and has a relaxing effect on patients suffering from neurosis, psychosis, anxiety, depression, restlessness, insomnia and post-traumatic stress disorder,
  • neurological diseases - with its ability to regenerate nerve cells and protect the body from further degradation, as well as exhibiting neuroactive and neuroprotective properties and being a potent antioxidant, has a positive effect on Parkinson's, Alzhaimer's and multiple sclerosis (MS) patients,
  • cancer - is extremely useful in chemotherapy, for example, as it inhibits the vomiting reflex.

CBD oil in Alzheimer's disease

Research into the effects of CBD oils continues unabated in many countries around the world. Their positive effects on patients struggling with Alzheimer's disease have actually only recently become known. First and foremost, cannabinoids are powerful antioxidants with the ability to protect nerve cells (neurons), on top of which they have strong anti-inflammatory properties. Studies also show that CBD has properties that slow down and even inhibit neurodegenerative processes of the dopaminergic system.

It is important to be aware that, despite many years of research into Alzheimer's disease, there is no vaccine to prevent it or drugs to cure it. However, it is possible to successfully slow down the progress of the disease and, up to a certain point, significantly alleviate its symptoms. In spite of the progression of the disease, this gives patients a chance to function quite decently, albeit, unfortunately, until the time comes. Pharmacological treatment should always be supported by natural preparations, such as cannabinoids. It is therefore beneficial to assist with CBD oils.

Alzheimer's disease, studies have shown, results in the deposition of lumps of protein (amyloid) in the brain. And the body, unable to get rid of this protein, causes inflammation to develop in these areas. Admittedly, no clinical studies have yet been carried out on the effects of CBD oil on these inflammatory conditions, but at the laboratory research level, the results are promising. Indeed, they show that CBD can reduce inflammation in the brain.

Other studies conducted on mice that were given both THC and CBD oil showed improved cognitive function and learning ability. In addition, the amount of amyloids in their bodies decreased. The research is still ongoing, but some of the conclusions from those already conducted are that CBD oil administered in high concentrations can have the effect of alleviating many ailments.

Research suggests that CBD products in high concentrations can promote:

  • pain relief,
  • managing some of the symptoms of dementia such as agitation, aggression and anxiety,
  • improved sleep quality,
  • improving poor wellbeing,
  • as antioxidants under oxygen stress.

Despite numerous studies, still little is known about the effect of CBD on Alzheimer's disease. However, no studies have shown that the use of CBD oils has bad side effects, but it is known to be a substance with great potential. However, its use should always be agreed with the treating physician.

Optimal results can be achieved by using CBD oils over a longer period of time. Sometimes it is only after several weeks of intensive therapy that the full spectrum of the therapeutic, beneficial effects of cannabidiol are felt. It is also crucial to use good quality products, purchased from reliable manufacturers.

    Susan

W dniu 26 meczu 2021 r. zdiagnozowano u mnie raka i rozpaczliwie potrzebowałem leczenia, dopóki ciocia nie poinformowała mnie o oleju z konopi indyjskich. Skontaktowała się z ricksimpsonhempoil1outlook.com . Uznano mnie za osobę wolną od raka.
